Maths
Mathematics is the most beautiful and most powerful creation of the human spirit.’ – Stefan Banach
Vision
At Calow Church of England (V.C.) Primary, we believe that by working hard, all children are capable of succeeding at Mathematics. We aim to raise the achievement of mathematics through the ‘mastery approach’ where children acquire a deep, long-term and secure understanding of the subject. All children will develop their mathematical fluency to master key knowledge and be able to apply it in a variety of contexts, making connections and recognising patterns. Children will then be able to apply their skills and knowledge to reasoning and problem solving activities with confidence and resilience with the belief that they can and will achieve. As a school, we are committed to enabling children to become competent, proficient learners who see the beauty of mathematics and its relevance, not just to STEM subjects, but to the world around them.
‘Mathematics is the language with which God has written the universe.’ Galileo Galilei
